A New Approach to Food Safety

Natalie Stanton, a Chartered Environmental Health Officer with 13 years of experience in local government and the private sector has seen first-hand how poor training leads to food poisoning outbreaks and low food hygiene ratings.

That’s why she’s on a mission to save the hospitality industry from “boring food safety training- because training should do more than ‘tick a box” with The Safety Expert.

“The problem is clear”, Natalie says, “People are the foundation of food safety. But just like how people with a driving license speed despite knowing the speed limit, food handlers with valid food hygiene certificates still make costly mistakes. I’ve seen it during countless inspections, and the result is often a low rating at best and deaths, legal action and reputational damage at worst.”

“But here’s where things need to change, it’s not about the certificate - it’s about competency. Training is just the beginning. The real difference comes from knowledge, confidence, and motivation to apply it every day.”

Natalie creates video-based food safety courses which aim to be more engaging to help hospitality businesses train their teams quickly and effectively to give staff the confidence and knowledge to implement safe practices.
